SWC Gratitude Report
We are so pleased to write to our Summit Wellness Centre family today – let’s call this our first annual SWC Gratitude Report! This is very appropriate because the team working together to bring the Summit Wellness Centre project to fruition is filled with gratitude for the investment you have made in this project and the great benefit it will bring to our communities.
Next year, our Gratitude Report to you will be filled with exciting images of our progress on the new and restored buildings and we can’t wait for that!
Today, we’d like to share with you some of the highlights of this past year’s journey to opening the doors of the SWC to the community.
As you know, we expected to be a little further along by this time with construction on the main building underway. Permit submissions and grant funding timelines have taken a little more time than we anticipated but all are moving in a positive direction.
At this time, the architects and engineers have delivered complete Design Drawings for the site, the historic building, and the new construction. It has been so exciting to stand inside the Train Station and reflect on how we can creatively preserve and showcase the historical elements of the building. Next step – construction drawings which should be ready March 2023. Plans have been made to raise the Train Station building so foundations can be constructed as soon as the frost comes out of the ground and then we are off and running!
We continue to seek partnerships and funding to support the construction of the Summit Wellness Centre. The Ministry of Health has committed to providing capital funding and we are in the process with them to determine the amount. We are pursuing federal funding through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program as well as other federal and more local programs. And we are so grateful that the municipality has committed up to $10 million in support.
The MTO has built our new entrance to the site from Hwy 35! Finishing touches will be completed in the Spring and we are so grateful that the MTO undertook this work on our behalf.
Conversations continue with other stakeholders and partners for the Summit Wellness Centre – the pharmacy, Coboconk and Area Food Bank, Community Care of Kawartha Lakes, Ross Memorial Hospital, and the Kawartha
North Family Health Team, dentist, massage therapists, and mental health professionals to name a few…all with the vision to serve these communities in a caring and thoughtful manner. The excitement is building for the Summit Wellness Centre to open.
It has been a very busy year of design and planning. It’s not always easy to see, but strong foundations are being put in place to build a place for community to come together for years to come. We can’t wait for the day when we can all celebrate together as we open the doors to the Summit Wellness Centre for the first time to serve all those in the community who need it.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your donation and your kind and caring thoughtfulness for the needs of the community. Your partnership with us to make the Summit Wellness Centre is so very appreciated.
We hope 2022 has been a good year for you and your family, and we wish you a happy and healthy holiday season. 2023 is going to be a big year! We can’t wait to share it with you every step of the way.
In gratitude,
